On the 22nd, the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission held a plenary meeting and confirmed the amendment to the Enforcement Decree of the Act on the Prohibition of Solicitation and Graft, raising the meal expense limit from 30,000 won to 50,000 won. The Commission plans to announce the legislative notice of the amendment as early as the 23rd.
Enacted in 2016, the Act on the Prohibition of Solicitation and Graft generally prohibits public officials from receiving money or valuables, while exceptionally allowing food worth up to 30,000 won and agricultural, livestock, and fishery products or processed gifts worth up to 150,000 won for the purposes of smooth job performance, socializing, and ceremonial occasions.
Jeong Seung-yoon, Vice Chairman and Secretary General of the Commission, explained that although the agenda to permanently raise the gift value of agricultural, livestock, and fishery products to 300,000 won was also raised at the meeting, no conclusion was reached, and further discussions will continue.
