Alcohol Component Detected in Real-Time Blood Test
Two soldiers on leave were riding electric scooters when one of them was hit by a bus and died.
On the 22nd, Yonhap News reported that "the Gwangju Nambu Police Station has booked A, a bus driver in his 60s, without detention on charges of causing injury and death under the Special Act on Traffic Accident Handling." A is suspected of causing a collision with an electric scooter while driving a commuter bus at an unregulated intersection in Bongseon-dong, Nam-gu, Gwangju, at around 5:35 a.m. on the 20th.
At the time, two soldiers in their 20s, including B, who was on leave, were riding the electric scooter, and it was found that none of them were wearing safety equipment such as helmets. Immediately after the accident, all scooter riders were transported to the hospital for treatment. However, B, who suffered severe head injuries, eventually died on the 21st. The other rider is also receiving hospital treatment but has not regained consciousness as of now.
The police are investigating the exact circumstances of the accident, based on the fact that alcohol was detected in B's blood test.
