Daejeon City announced on the 22nd that it has signed a strategic business agreement with the Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO) at the Government Daejeon Complex, and will promote various collaborative projects to revitalize the local economy and strengthen citizen capabilities based on intellectual property.

Daejeon City and KIPO have agreed to strengthen mutual cooperation focusing on ten major collaborative tasks, including: establishing strategic industry policies through patent big data analysis; providing intellectual property capacity-building education for businesses and citizens; supporting the establishment of IP-R&D strategies; jointly creating intellectual property funds and providing investment attraction consulting; and hosting the nation's largest invention education event, the 'Youth Invention Festival,' in Daejeon.

Kim Wanki, Commissioner of KIPO, stated, "This agreement is significant in that the central government and local government have come together to enhance communication and cooperation across education and industry, and to revitalize the local economy based on intellectual property. Intellectual property will serve as a guide for regional industrial development, and we will actively support Daejeon's businesses and citizens so they can make the most of intellectual property."

Lee Jangwoo, Mayor of Daejeon, said, "Daejeon City is rapidly transitioning to an industry structure centered on advanced technology fields, based on its outstanding R&D capabilities. Through this agreement, we will build a close cooperation system with KIPO to accelerate our growth as a global innovation city based on intellectual property."
