Exclusive Zone General Vehicle Parking, Charging Zone Entrance Obstruction, Continuous Parking, etc.
Gwangyang City in Jeollanam-do announced that it will strengthen public awareness campaigns to eradicate obstructive behaviors in electric vehicle (EV) charging zones, which have been increasing annually as the EV adoption rate rises.
In Gwangyang City, promotional leaflets and banners have been produced and distributed targeting 92 apartment complexes with 100 or more households, which are required to install EV charging facilities. Additionally, the city plans to work hard to eliminate obstructive behaviors through regular announcements and electronic display board promotions.
Obstructive behaviors in EV charging zones include cases where general vehicles park in EV-only charging zones, objects are piled up at the entrance to charging zones, EVs remain parked beyond the standard time limits (1 hour for fast charging, 14 hours for slow charging), and intentional damage to charging zones and facilities.
Intentional damage is subject to a fine of 200,000 KRW, while other obstructive behaviors incur a fine of 100,000 KRW.
Since the revision of the Eco-friendly Vehicle Act enforcement decree, Gwangyang City has imposed fines totaling 85 million KRW on 1,148 cases through a resident reporting system.
Kim Yong-gil, Director of the Environment Division, stated, “As the expansion of EV adoption increases the importance of charging infrastructure, we have expanded related infrastructure to activate EV adoption and enhance user convenience. We will strive to promote the eradication of obstructive behaviors to ensure that EV-related regulations are firmly established.”
