Gwangju Party Committee Chair Candidate Registration... Official Start of Election Campaign
Vision Declaration Ceremony Held... Emphasizing 'Communication and Bold Innovation' Again
"Gwangju as the Center for the Next Administration's Rule and a Competent Democratic Party Foundation"
"We will open a true 'party member-centered mass party era' and an 'era of democracy and republic' that respectfully honors party members and citizens with dignity, gathers their will, and makes decisions and executes accordingly."
Kang Wiwon, the standing representative of the Democratic Party of Korea's National Innovation Council, has completed his registration as a candidate for the chairman of the Democratic Party of Korea Gwangju Metropolitan City Party Committee and has officially entered the election campaign.
Kang Wiwon, Co-Chair of the Democratic Party's National Innovation Council, explained the party's operational plan at the vision declaration ceremony of the election campaign committee after registering as a candidate for the Democratic Party Gwangju City Party Chair on the 22nd.
Kang Wiwon, candidate for chairman of the Democratic Party of Korea Gwangju City Party Committee, paid respects at the National 5·18 Democratic Cemetery and the National Democratic Martyrs' Cemetery in Unjeong-dong, Buk-gu, Gwangju, on the morning of the 22nd, and visited the Kim Jun-bae Martyrs' Spirit Succession Association.
Following his candidate registration, he held a 'Vision Declaration Ceremony' at the Democratic Party Gwangju City Party Committee, where he outlined his vision for party committee operations.
Kang emphasized, "In the era of party member sovereignty, the leadership needed for the Gwangju City Party Committee is leadership that serves 110,000 rights-holding party members and 1.4 million citizens," adding, "We must end the 'National Assembly member-centered feudal lord era' that reigned over party members, delegates, local councilors, and basic local government heads."
At the declaration ceremony, 100 rights-holding party members were introduced as co-chairs of the joint election committee, and appointment certificates were awarded.
Earlier, the election committee named itself 'Innovation Storm' and publicly recruited 100 party members from various sectors and professions, including seniors, women, university students, youth, people with disabilities, laborers, and small business owners.
Kang's idea is to gather 100 ordinary but great citizens and party members as co-chairs of the joint election committee to demonstrate what the era of party member sovereignty looks like.
This also reflects his determination to realize a party member-centered mass party through party committee operations that serve Gwangju's 110,000 rights-holding party members and 1.4 million citizens.
It is interpreted as a declaration of intent not just to talk about party member sovereignty in words but to properly listen to and serve party members starting from the composition of the party committee chairman's election committee, as Kang Wiwon has consistently stated.
Kang said, "This election is not about choosing Kang or Yang," adding, "It is about whether we can seize the next administration or not."
To this end, Kang explained that communication that actively listens to and reflects the voices of party members is important.
Kang stated, "We will create a party member communication team composed of volunteers by district and establish a political call center for the Gwangju City Party Committee," emphasizing, "We will ensure that party members receive official calls from the party committee at least four times a year."
He continued, "I will place a chairman's desk and chair at the party committee entrance, greet first, record the voices of visiting party members, report directly to Representative Lee Jae-myung, and receive direct replies to deliver," adding, "We will return the nomination rights to party members and place Gwangju at the center of the Democratic Party through an open party committee and a 365-day party committee."
Meanwhile, prior to the event, lawmakers Kim Moon-seok, Kim Woo-young, Kang Sun-woo, Kim Min-seok, Jung Chung-rae, Lee Sung-yoon, Lee Jae-gang, Nam Hyun-hee, Kim Dong-a, Mr. Seo Seung-man, lawyer Kim Kyu-hyun, Professor Park Gu-yong of Chonnam National University, political commentator Park Jin-young, and An Jin-geol, director of the People's Livelihood Economy Research Institute, showed their support through video messages.
