Rep. Park: "President Yoon Must Support Common People and Farmers and Fishermen"

Amidst the recent heavy rains causing successive damage to rural farming and fishing communities in the Jeonnam region, urgent calls are being made for measures to prevent wind and flood disasters.

On the 20th, Democratic Party lawmaker Park Ji-won visited his constituency areas of Jindo-gun, Haenam-gun, and Wando-gun to directly inspect the local situation.

First, upon visiting Jindo-gun, Representative Park confirmed significant damage such as road collapses and the destruction of rockfall prevention facilities at Dumokjae in Jindo.

In response, Kim Hee-su, the governor of Jindo-gun, proposed that “emergency support for road safety is necessary.”

Next, Representative Park visited Haenam-gun and witnessed flooding damage occurring in the Yeryak district due to the floodwaters.

Myeong Hyun-gwan, the governor of Haenam-gun, requested “financial support for disaster prevention in residential areas vulnerable to wind and flood disasters.”

At Wando-gun, Representative Park inspected the damage at the Samdosugun Tongjeyeong construction site and the flatfish aquaculture farms.

Shin Woo-cheol, the governor of Wando-gun, emphasized that “while requesting national funding for damage recovery, construction must proceed with residents’ safety as the top priority.”

Confirming the difficulties in his constituency firsthand, Representative Park Ji-won urged the government to actively prepare measures, saying, “Please protect the vulnerable low-income residents and farmers and fishermen who are susceptible to wind and flood disasters.”

He added, “Rapid government response is essential to prepare for concerns arising from the ongoing monsoon season and typhoons.”
