IQCEL "Leap as a 3rd Generation Solar Cell Game Changer with Perovskite Technology"

Alongside the rapidly growing IT, AI, and semiconductor technologies worldwide, significant changes are also occurring in the solar cell industry.

Perovskite, classified as a third-generation solar cell technology that can replace the first-generation crystalline silicon solar cells (hereinafter referred to as silicon cells), is being recognized as a game changer in the solar cell field, attracting high interest from related companies and continuous research and development investments.

Although companies developing perovskite are emerging globally, perovskite solar cells have not easily secured their position as a game changer due to issues such as increased interfacial resistance caused by heat during the transparent conductive oxide (TCO) deposition process for electron and charge transport, and a decrease in photo-conversion efficiency.

Perovskite offers high photo-conversion efficiency and low manufacturing costs, enabling the production of solar cell deposition equipment. Commonly known as the New Plasma System (NPS), this next-generation equipment allows cell deposition not only on conventional wafers but also on substrates like glass, which are gaining attention as next-generation solar substrates.

Recently, EQCell has been attracting attention in the solar cell industry. EQCell overcame the thermal degradation problem?caused by increased interfacial resistance and decreased photo-conversion efficiency due to heat in perovskite?through low-temperature TCO deposition technology using NPS, enabling the world's first large-area mass production.

The company has been recognized for its technological capabilities, receiving orders and supplying research equipment from leading Chinese solar cell companies, followed by orders and supply of mass production equipment, thereby validating its NPS technology and deposition equipment. Additionally, EQCell has secured orders for fine mesh deposition equipment for next-generation high-efficiency perovskite structured solar cell production from a global company regarded as the world's largest secondary battery manufacturer, solidifying its position as a domestic leader in technology.

EQCell continues its business by receiving orders for NPS + Sputtering hybrid deposition equipment for perovskite solar cells, recognized for the excellence of its NPS and Sputtering technologies and equipment by global companies. The company plans to sustain growth through follow-up orders for expanding existing customers' manufacturing lines and new customer orders based on customer trust.

An industry insider stated, “EQCell has been recognized as a company with expertise in producing high-quality perovskite cells, consistently generating sales despite internal challenges,” adding, “If EQCell’s technological capabilities and funding for research and development are supported, it will become the domestic game changer in third-generation solar cells.”

Meanwhile, according to market research firm Market and Markets, the global perovskite solar cell market size is expected to grow from $271 million (KRW 363.98 billion) in 2024 to $2.268 billion (KRW 3.046 trillion) in 2028, with an annual growth rate of 70.1%.
