Choo Kyung-ho: "Jeong Cheong-rae, who abuses power, should carefully look at his own reflection in the mirror"

"Only Park Jeonghun's Feelings and Speculations Are Grounds for Investigation Pressure"
"Cannot Understand Speaker Woo's Intent... Is Leaving the Party Certain?"

Choo Kyung-ho, the floor leader of the People Power Party, criticized Jeong Cheong-rae, the chairman of the Legislation and Judiciary Committee who pushed forward the impeachment petition hearing for President Yoon Seok-yeol last week, saying, "I recommend that he take off his National Assembly badge and take some time to carefully look at himself in the mirror." This was because no new facts emerged during the hearing forced by Chairman Jeong and the Democratic Party, and there was only tyranny directed at ruling party lawmakers.

At an emergency committee meeting held at the National Assembly on the 22nd, Floor Leader Choo said, "Chairman Jeong's abuse of power is not a new issue, but once again, his arrogance as an abusive chairman has angered the public." He added, "In particular, Chairman Jeong committed a heinous act by suspending the speaking rights of People Power Party lawmaker Kwak Gyu-taek simply because he looked at him, and threatened to expel him if he looked again," emphasizing, "This is an insult to a lawmaker representing the people and an insult to the people."

He continued, "The impeachment hearing for President Yoon, which lasted over 12 hours, was ultimately a repeat of the legislative hearing for the special prosecutor law led by Chae Sang-byeong in June. No new facts emerged," adding, "Former Marine Corps Investigation Unit Chief Park Jeong-hoon even stated that he never received any specific instructions from the presidential office about who to include or exclude. This clearly revealed that there was no substance to the core issue of investigation interference." He further said, "The so-called evidence of investigation interference presented at the hearing was nothing but former Chief Park's feelings and speculation that he might have been pressured," and criticized, "The Democratic Party is inflating baseless allegations of interference against President Yoon based solely on personal feelings and is conspiring an impeachment plot."

Floor Leader Choo stated, "Many opposition lawmakers currently serving on the Legislation and Judiciary Committee are either defendants unqualified to be on the committee or parties with conflicts of interest unqualified to attend the impeachment hearing," and urged, "Stop the unconstitutional and illegal hearings that incite public conflict and cause national turmoil immediately."

Regarding Speaker Woo Won-shik's proposal of a bipartisan mediation plan on the four broadcasting laws (Broadcasting Act, Korea Broadcasting Culture Promotion Foundation Act, Korea Educational Broadcasting System Act, and the Act on the Establishment of the Korea Communications Commission), he criticized, "I cannot understand the intention to emphasize bipartisan cooperation only for the Broadcasting Act." Floor Leader Choo stressed, "If Speaker Woo sincerely wishes for smooth operation of the National Assembly and bipartisan cooperation, he should sternly point out and mediate not only the four broadcasting laws related to broadcasting control but also the illegal impeachment hearings held in the Legislation and Judiciary Committee, the illegal strike-promotion laws, and the cash distribution laws?legislative rampages by the Democratic Party."

He added, "I understand that when Woo became Speaker, he relinquished his Democratic Party membership according to the National Assembly Act. Is that certain?" and said, "I hope he is not just discarding the shell of Democratic Party membership while secretly cherishing the blue Democratic Party membership deep in his heart as he runs the National Assembly."
