LabGenomics Provides PCR Diagnosis for Pertussis Infection... "Early Testing Crucial Amid Patient Surge"

LabGenomics announced on the 22nd that it provides gene amplification technology (PCR) diagnostic services for Bordetella pertussis.

Bordetella pertussis infection is caused by the Bordetella pertussis bacterium and is a highly contagious respiratory disease.

According to the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency, the number of pertussis patients in South Korea has sharply increased since June this year, reaching 6,986 as of the 6th. This is the highest number in the past 10 years, including the COVID-19 pandemic period, and it mainly affects children and adolescents. Globally, the number of cases has also surged recently, highlighting the importance of prevention and rapid testing.

A LabGenomics representative stated, "Blood tests and culture tests have the disadvantage of a long average turnaround time (TAT), making timely treatment difficult. However, by utilizing our PCR diagnostic test, which offers high accuracy and sensitivity, the test takes only one day." They added, "The number of tests conducted from January to July this year increased by more than 30% compared to the same period last year."

They continued, "As confirmed cases are rapidly increasing, early testing is crucial. We will strive to prevent the spread of the pertussis virus by expanding our services."
