Sergeant Jeong Heon-ju, Winner of the 'Character Content' Grand Prize, Donates Entire 800,000 Won Prize Money to Filial Piety Meals in Mapo-gu

On the morning of July 19, a warm gesture of donation from the military was delivered to the Filial Piety Meal Project in Mapo-gu (Mayor Park Gang-su).

The donor is Corporal Jeong Heon-ju (21) of the Nogo Mountain Brigade, 56th Infantry Division of the Army.

At the donation ceremony held in the policy meeting room of Mapo-gu Office, attendees included donor Corporal Jeong Heon-ju, Park Gang-su, Mayor of Mapo-gu, Battalion Commander Song Tae-gwon, Personnel Non-Commissioned Officer Yang Eun-sol, and Lee Hong-ju, Chairman of the Mapo Welfare Foundation, adding significance to the event.

At the ceremony, Corporal Jeong donated the entire prize money of 800,000 won, which he received for winning the Grand Prize in the ‘Character Content’ category for producing a character education video in the ‘Armed Forces Dream Boom Boom’ contest, to the Mapo Welfare Foundation for the Filial Piety Meal Project.

Regarding his decision to donate to the Filial Piety Meal Project, Corporal Jeong said, “From the time I participated in the contest, I had resolved to donate regardless of the outcome,” and added, “While considering where to donate, the battalion commander introduced me to the Mapo-gu Filial Piety Meal Project.”

He continued, “Although the amount of 800,000 won may be small, I thought it could be a greater strength to someone, so I decided to donate,” and added, “As a member of the unit protecting Mapo-gu, it is very meaningful to be able to help Mapo-gu.”

Battalion Commander Song Tae-gwon, who introduced the Filial Piety Meal Project, said, “Corporal Jeong Heon-ju is usually very proactive in military life, and recently at a veterans’ event, he readily extended a helping hand to those with mobility difficulties,” and added, “Corporal Jeong, who shared his achievements with neighbors, is a pride of our unit.”

The prize money donated by Corporal Jeong will be used for the ‘Filial Piety Meal’ project, a one-stop senior welfare service that provides high-quality lunch six days a week along with health, legal, and tax consultations for seniors aged 75 and older.

Park Gang-su, Mayor of Mapo-gu, said, “The prize money donated by Corporal Jeong will be a driving force that brings warm affection to the local community,” and added, “I sincerely thank Corporal Jeong, who, despite his young age, shows interest in society and practices it through donation.”
