Regarding the recent incident where a spectator ran onto the field during a baseball game, Doosan Bears manager Lee Seung-yeop strongly criticized it as "absurd." The manager said, "At first, I was a bit taken aback. Some others might see it as a different kind of entertainment. However, from a player's perspective, it is an undesirable act. I hope he never comes back to the baseball stadium again."
The commotion occurred during the game between the LG Twins and Doosan Bears at Jamsil Stadium on the 19th. In the bottom of the 5th inning, while LG was on offense, a man suddenly appeared in the outfield holding an open umbrella and started running across the field. The man, dressed in a suit, sprinted with both arms raised high into the sky, running across the outfield and all the way to the infield.
Near first base, he dodged security personnel as if playing tag, moving his body this way and that. However, this unexpected behavior did not last long, and he was caught by officials and removed from the field. As he left the scene, the man even waved his hand toward the dugout where the players were. The entire incident was captured live by the broadcasting cameras covering the game. The commentators repeatedly chuckled. The broadcast also showed LG manager Yeom Kyung-yeop and his coaching staff watching the scene with bewildered smiles.
However, Manager Lee Seung-yeop did not simply take the incident lightly and showed his discomfort. In fact, the game was halted for over a minute due to the spectator's intrusion, which could have disrupted pitcher Lee Gyo-hoon's rhythm on the mound. Fortunately, the man did not cause direct harm to players or umpires; otherwise, it could have been a dangerous situation. Additionally, the interruption inconvenienced all the spectators who had entered the stadium that day, unintentionally disturbing their viewing experience.
It was reported that the man was intoxicated at the time. An LG team official stated, "The spectator said he ran out to the outfield to pick up an umbrella he dropped," and added, "We reported the incident to the police."
