Ministry of Culture Awards Minister's Prize and Holds Art Exhibition
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism announced on the 22nd that this year's Young Architect Award recipients are Hyun Seungheon, CEO of Sunlab, Kim Hanjung, CEO of Ground Architects, and Cho Kyungbin, head of Pildong2ga Architects. The Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Award will be presented at the Korea Architecture Culture Festival held at Suwon Convention Center on November 25, along with an exhibition of their works. Opportunities such as publication of a collection of works and participation in domestic and international architectural events will also be provided.
CEO Hyun Seungheon is an architect who seriously contemplates the social responsibility of architecture. He aims to address neglected social realities through architectural and spatial solutions. His representative works include Shareus Sillim and Shareus Ebenesel, which are multi-residential facilities.
CEO Kim Hanjung values the concept of "the act of creation" in architecture. Through the metaphor of screws and bolts, he reminds us why architecture, as a product of materials and processes, must focus on the process of creation. This can be seen in Cafe Travertine, Intellian Tech Visitor Lounge, Cheongwon Elementary School Gymnasium, and Approach Coffee.
CEO Cho demonstrates perseverance and a calm attitude in enduring given situations and finding appropriate solutions, which are clearly reflected in his architecture. Especially, his restrained and rational architectural language, expressed through neat spaces, shows publicness and sensitivity. His representative works include Namsan-dong Community Facility, Huam-dong Banban, Seocho-dong 1515, Yulhyeon-dong Three-family House, and Daeyoung Villa 220.
