Presented at October Yongsan District Residents' Day Event
Yongsan-gu, Seoul (Mayor Park Hee-young) announced on the 22nd that it will accept nominations for the "31st Yongsan Resident Awards" until the 16th of next month, select the winners, and present the awards at the Yongsan Residents' Day ceremony in October this year.
The Yongsan Resident Awards were established to discover and honor residents who personally practice love for the local community, highlighting the true image of Yongsan residents and boosting their pride. The award categories for nominations include ▲Good Deeds and Volunteer Service Award ▲Model Family Award ▲Culture and Arts Award ▲Promotion of Sports Award ▲Regional Development Award ▲Environmental Protection Award ▲Education Development Award ▲Safety Award ▲Special Award, totaling nine categories. The Special Award is given to individuals or groups who have gained great fame domestically or internationally in a specific field and have brought honor to Yongsan-gu.
Nominees must be residents or organizations (or their members) who have continuously registered their residence and been located in Yongsan-gu for more than five years as of the announcement date, the 15th of this month. However, there are no residency or location restrictions for the Special Award nominees.
Residents wishing to recommend candidates for the Resident Awards can submit a petition signed by at least 30 people to the local community service center of their residence. Heads of institutions, professional organizations, school principals, corporations, and two or more district council members can also recommend candidates to the local community service center or the Yongsan-gu Office’s Autonomous Administration Division.
Recommended candidates will undergo on-site verification of their achievements next month and be reviewed by the Public Merit Review Committee (chaired by the Deputy Mayor) in September. Final winners, approximately one per category, will be selected. Awardees will receive plaques for each category at the Yongsan Residents' Day ceremony in October.
Necessary forms for recommendations can be downloaded from the "Notices/Announcements" board on the Yongsan-gu Office website. For further inquiries, please contact the Autonomous Administration Division of Yongsan-gu Office or the local community service centers by phone.
Mayor Park Hee-young stated, "Yongsan exists today because of those who cherish and love their neighbors and always strive for regional development," and added, "We hope many will recommend these gem-like individuals who serve as role models to their neighbors throughout the community."
The Yongsan Resident Awards began in 1994 and this year marks the 31st ceremony. To date, 180 residents who have served their neighbors and local community in various social sectors have been honored with the Yongsan Resident Award.
