A marathon and walking event will be held consecutively in the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) area of Paju, Gyeonggi Province this October.
Gyeonggi Province announced on the 22nd that it will hold the "2024 DMZ Peace Walking and Marathon," where participants can walk and run through the DMZ area to experience the peace, ecological, and historical values of the DMZ, on October 5th and 6th, and will recruit participants on a first-come, first-served basis until September 13th.
The DMZ Peace Walking event will take place on October 5th around Imjingak in Paju, allowing participants to walk along the Imjingang Riverside Ecological Trail, which is located in the civilian control zone. The event is divided into a general course (9.1 km) and a shortened course (6 km), and participants can enjoy various events, musical performances, and a DMZ treasure hunt using mobile devices while walking the course.
The DMZ Peace Marathon will be held on October 6th, starting from Imjingak, passing through the Unification Bridge, and returning to Imjingak. The marathon is divided into a half marathon and a 10 km course. Participants will be able to run across the Unification Bridge, which is in the civilian control zone, into the area north of the Military Demarcation Line. Various side events and celebratory performances are also prepared.
The participation fee for the DMZ Peace Walking is 10,000 KRW, while the fee for the DMZ Peace Marathon is 35,000 KRW for the half marathon and 30,000 KRW for the 10 km course. The fees will be used for souvenirs for the participants.

Additionally, on October 5th, Gyeonggi Province will expand the opening of Camp Greaves History Park, which can be visited by taking the Imjingak Peace Gondola on the day of the "DMZ Peace Walking" event.
Kang Ji-suk, head of the DMZ Policy Division of Gyeonggi Province, said, "The DMZ Peace Walking has been held since 2019, and the DMZ Peace Marathon since 2007 to promote the peace, ecological, and historical values of the DMZ," adding, "This event will be a great opportunity to directly walk and run through the DMZ area and feel the value of the DMZ."
