Full-Scale Promotion of Developing Air Force Base Site into a Mixed-Use Residential and Office Dense City
Establishment of a Forum for Expert Opinions on Air Force Base Site Development through Advisory Group Appointment
Geumcheon-gu (District Mayor Yu Seong-hoon) announced that it formed an external expert advisory group for the development of the Air Force base site and held the 1st Air Force Base Complex Development Advisory Meeting on the 17th.
The district operates the advisory group to gather diverse opinions from external experts on the development project of the Doksan-dong Air Force base site, selected as a leading project in the Spatial Innovation Zone, and to ensure prompt and smooth progress.
The advisory group consists of 19 experts from various fields including defense, architectural planning, civil engineering and disaster prevention, and legal consultation, providing advice on diverse areas such as defense, military facility installation, spatial creation, and industrial attraction.
The advisory meeting was attended by Geumcheon-gu Mayor Yu Seong-hoon and six external experts in urban planning and defense/military fields. The attendees focused on discussing directions for establishing urban management plans to enable rapid and stable military base development and fostering new industrial hubs.
The "Spatial Innovation Zone" is a special urban planning district where regulations such as permitted building uses, building coverage ratio, and floor area ratio are relaxed. The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport determined the Doksan Air Force base site as an area requiring facility relocation and new function creation, designating it as a leading project site for the Spatial Innovation Zone.
The Air Force base site is scheduled to be designated as an Urban Innovation Zone after the district establishes a spatial restructuring plan containing specific development plans, followed by legal procedures including reviews by the Central Urban Planning Committee and the Local Urban Planning Committee.
Geumcheon-gu Mayor Yu Seong-hoon stated, “We will collect the opinions of the newly formed private expert advisory members to ensure the Air Force base site complex development project proceeds promptly and smoothly,” adding, “We will restore the disconnected local living area and develop it into a new center of the southwestern gateway city of Seoul, laying the foundation for strengthening urban competitiveness.”
