Old Grain Warehouse Transformed into Complex Cultural Facility... Incheon Port 'Sangsang Platform' Officially Opens

An old grain warehouse at Incheon Port has been transformed into a complex cultural facility for citizens.

Incheon Tourism Organization announced on the 22nd that the Sangsang Platform within Pier 8 of Incheon Inner Port officially opened on the 19th. The Sangsang Platform is a space created by remodeling the old grain warehouse built in 1978 at Incheon Port into a marine complex cultural tourism facility by the city of Incheon.

It will house the media art exhibition hall 'Museum L', the bakery and cafe 'Storage Incheon' with a great sea view, the future education complex experience space 'Incheon Metropolitan Office of Education AI Convergence Education Center', and local workshops 'Hanjisaenggakidak' and 'Gallery GT'.

Outdoors, the priority open areas of Incheon Inner Port Piers 1 and 8, which have returned to the citizens, are located. Convenience facilities such as the approximately 6,000-pyeong grassy plaza '1883 Gaehang Plaza', a media wall, smart music benches, and a Gaehang photo zone have been created.

Since April, starting with the relocation of the Incheon Tourism Organization headquarters, the Sangsang Platform has made its presence known by consecutively hosting major events such as the 1883 Incheon Maekgang (beer + fried chicken) party, the 1883 Sangsang Platform night market, and the 2024 Cheongryong Series handprinting.

As the first event after opening, the Incheon Tourism Organization held a 'Shoe Throwing Contest' on the 20th with about 300 citizens participating. On the 27th and 28th, the 'Jemulpo Wave Market' featuring local brands will be held, and on the 3rd of next month, the 'Waterbomb Incheon 2024' music festival will take place.

The organization expects that the opening of the Sangsang Platform will invigorate the tourism industry in the old downtown areas of Jung-gu and Dong-gu in Incheon and serve as a catalyst for the success of Mayor Yoo Jeong-bok's flagship pledge, the 'Jemulpo Renaissance'.

Baek Hyun, president of the Incheon Tourism Organization, said, "We will strive to make the Sangsang Platform a familiar space for citizens and establish it as a representative content of Incheon."
