Confirmed: New Station at Songpa-gu (Oryun Samgeori) Added on Songpa-Hanam Line (3 Line Extension)

With the final confirmation of the station locations for the Songpa-Hanam Line on July 3rd, Songpa-gu's six years of efforts have borne fruit.

Songpa-gu (Mayor Seo Gang-seok) announced that among the six stations of the Songpa-Hanam Line (an extension of Subway Line 3), the plan includes the establishment of a station within Songpa-gu, which had been a long-standing wish of the residents.

According to the "Basic Plan for the Songpa-Hanam Line Metropolitan Railroad (Draft) and Strategic Environmental Impact Assessment (Preliminary Draft)" announced by Gyeonggi Province on the 3rd, the Songpa-Hanam Line will extend Line 3 from Ogeum Station through Gam-il and Gyosan districts in Hanam City to Hanam City Hall Station on Line 5, covering a total length of 11.7 km. The first station following Ogeum Station is planned to be located beneath Oryun Samgeori in Ogeum-dong, Songpa-gu.

The Songpa-Hanam Line was decided as part of the metropolitan transportation measures for Hanam Gyosan New Town in 2018, but the installation of a station within Songpa-gu was not reflected in the preliminary feasibility study.

In response, Seo Gang-seok, Mayor of Songpa-gu, adopted the "Establishment of a Songpa-Hanam Line Station" as a key pledge of the 8th local government term and has emphasized its necessity. This is to address the public transportation exclusion issues faced by residents of the outer areas such as Oryun-dong and Ogeum-dong, as well as inconveniences caused by changes to the terminal station.

The district has made continuous efforts to have a station installed within Songpa-gu by persistently requesting Seoul City, Gyeonggi Province, and the Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH).

As a result of these efforts, in February 2023, the district's proposal requesting station installation was reflected and included in the urban railway basic plan establishment project, allowing feasibility reviews and consultations with related agencies for plan confirmation to proceed.

On July 18th, Gyeonggi Province held a "Public Hearing on the Basic Plan for the Songpa-Hanam Line Metropolitan Railroad (Draft) and Strategic Environmental Impact Assessment (Preliminary Draft) Resident Briefing Session" at the Ogeum-dong Community Center, which included the plan for establishing a station within Songpa-gu.

At this event, residents expressed their welcome and provided various opinions, including requests for station location changes and ecological wetland preservation.

Seo Gang-seok, Mayor of Songpa-gu, stated, "The confirmation of the station location is a meaningful achievement of 'servant administration' that listened to the voices of the residents." He added, "We will continue to make efforts to ensure that residents' opinions on congestion mitigation measures, station entrance locations, train operation intervals, and more are continuously reflected throughout the project process."
