The Youth Choir proudly won the championship among about 11,000 participants from 250 choirs representing 30 countries at the competition held in Auckland, New Zealand, on the 10th. The event is also known as the 'World Choir Olympics.'
The award ceremony took place on the 19th. Melissa Lee, Korean-New Zealander Minister for Economic Development representing the New Zealand government, attended and shared her joy with the Youth Choir, offering generous encouragement.
Before the competition, the Youth Choir visited the homes of New Zealand veterans who participated in the Korean War to perform and express their gratitude. At the churches where the veterans lived, they also held concerts for local residents.
The Youth Choir was formed in 2011, starting with the KBS entertainment program 'Men's Qualification.' After the program ended, it was reborn as a civilian choir. Since then, it has performed at the UN Headquarters and Carnegie Hall and participated in the Graz Choir Festival in Austria, receiving favorable reviews.
Yoon Hak-su, director of the Youth Choir, said, "Currently, the Youth Choir is planning a tour performance in 16 countries that participated in the Korean War," adding, "We will continue activities that give hope and courage to neighbors who are struggling and in hardship."
