Yun Byeong-tae, Mayor of Naju, Encourages Emergency Workers During Heavy Rain Warning

According to Naju City on the 21st, between 2 and 3 a.m. that day, heavy rain exceeding 20mm per hour fell in areas such as Bitgaram-dong (20mm/h) and Nampyeong (18mm/h), leading to the issuance of a heavy rain advisory at 2:10 a.m.

The city declared an emergency level 1 duty, and about 50 employees from 23 departments under the Disaster Safety Countermeasures Headquarters and 20 township and neighborhood offices reported to work, carrying out their respective emergency duties until the weather advisory was lifted at 6:30 a.m.

After the heavy rain advisory was lifted, Mayor Yoon visited the Sanpo Drainage Pump Station and Cheongdong Drainage Pump Station at 7 a.m. to check the operation status of the drainage pumps and the water levels of nearby rivers, while encouraging the employees on emergency duty.

The Sanpo Drainage Pump Station, located in Naegi-ri, Sanpo-myeon, operates seven submersible pumps capable of forcibly draining about 2,200 tons of water per minute into the nearby Jiseokcheon Stream, making it the largest capacity drainage pump station in the jurisdiction.

The Cheongdong Drainage Pump Station, included in the Najucheon Ecological Waterway Construction Project section and currently undergoing expansion work, is a drainage pump station closely connected to the urban area next to the Yeongsan River in Samdo-dong.

Mayor Yoon said, “Sudden heavy rains during the monsoon season are becoming more frequent, so I hope that facilities such as drainage pump stations and rainwater inlets will be regularly inspected to ensure there are no obstacles to drainage,” and added, “Please maintain thorough real-time situation management and be fully prepared to respond immediately to sudden localized heavy rains.”
