Democratic Party Gangwon Provincial Committee Elects Kim Do-gyun as New Chairman

The Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province Party Committee of the Democratic Party of Korea elected Kim Do-gyun, the regional committee chairman for Sokcho, Inje, Goseong, and Yangyang, as the new provincial party chairman on the 21st.

Kim, the newly appointed provincial party chairman, ran unopposed and received 91.48% approval.

In his acceptance speech, Chairman Kim stated, "Our Democratic Party achieved an unprecedented landslide victory in the last general election, but we were defeated in Gangwon Province," adding, "We will boldly implement practical measures for change and innovation that party members can feel."

He continued, "Gangwon Democratic Party will stand at the center of a confident, proud, member-centered, mass party that brings victory to its members," emphasizing, "With the united strength of a confident and proud Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province Party Committee, we will wholeheartedly fulfill the mission of complete victory in the upcoming 2026 local elections and the regime change to the fourth democratic government."

About 1,000 people attended the regular party members' meeting held at the Hongcheon Sports Complex, including Provincial Party Chairman Heo Young, National Assembly member Song Ki-heon, regional committee chairmen, heads of basic local governments, metropolitan and basic council members, delegates, and party members.

Prior to the regular party members' meeting, a joint speech session for the regional primary election to select the new leadership of the Democratic Party was held, where three party representative candidates and eight supreme council member candidates presented their platforms.
