Seoul City-Operated Hotel Sky Suite Opens on 17th
Fully Booked on Airbnb Within 4 Days of Launch
Seoul City’s 'Sky Suite,' the nation’s first accommodation facility built on a bridge, has gained great popularity, with all reservations fully booked until the end of September just four days after opening.
On the 21st, Seoul City announced that the 'Sky Suite,' the country’s first accommodation facility on a bridge located on Hangang Bridge (495 Yangnyeong-ro, Yongsan-gu), has completed renovations and officially started operations. The Sky Suite was fully booked until the end of September just four days after reservations opened on Airbnb on the 1st.
This hotel, converted from the 'Jiknyeo Cafe,' a scenic cafe on the Hangang River, covers an area of 144.13㎡ (approximately 44 pyeong) and includes a bedroom, living room, bathroom, and kitchenette. Large windows are installed on the southwest side of the bedroom, allowing guests to enjoy panoramic views of the Hangang River stretching from Nodeul Island to Yeouido. Additionally, the living room ceiling is made of glass so that guests can look up at the night view and sky. The accommodation fee ranges from a minimum of 355,000 KRW to a maximum of 500,000 KRW.
Starting with the first guest selected through a free stay event on the 16th, the facility has been open for general reservations since the 17th. Mr. Lee, the first free stay participant, spent a special day enjoying a wine package with his mother, middle school daughter, and younger brother. The other three citizens selected for free stays will also stay during their preferred periods next month. The city plans to continue offering free stay opportunities quarterly through story contests for Seoul citizens’ award winners and those who usually find it difficult to use hotels.
Reservations for the Sky Suite are made through the Airbnb platform (airbnb.com/skysuite). Due to the early full booking, the city plans to monitor reservation trends and consider expanding available booking dates. Currently, reservations are activated every Thursday for dates within three months from the booking date.
Additionally, the city has transformed the bus stop in front of the Sky Suite into an outdoor gallery exhibiting photographic works capturing the four seasons of the Hangang River, providing another attraction. By the end of next month, the city will collaborate with the cafe 'Urban Plant,' which will open in the opposite 'Gyeonwoo Cafe,' to offer various meal options to Sky Suite guests.
Joo Yong-tae, head of the Future Hangang Headquarters, said, "Even before opening, the Sky Suite attracted attention with various titles such as the nation’s first hotel on a bridge and a Hangang River scenic spot. We will meticulously ensure quality in every aspect so that it meets the expectations of Seoul citizens and tourists and becomes a beloved space for a long time. We will do our best to make it a landmark representing the Hangang River and Seoul."
