Military, Responds to North Korea's Pollution Balloons with "Loudspeaker Broadcasts on All Frontlines" (Comprehensive)

Our military will fully implement loudspeaker broadcasts across all frontlines facing North Korea in response to the North’s repeated release of filth balloons.

The Joint Chiefs of Staff announced on the 21st, "As previously warned several times, our military will fully implement loudspeaker broadcasts across all frontlines facing North Korea starting at 1 p.m. today."

The reason for resuming loudspeaker broadcasts across all frontlines is that North Korea once again released filth balloons this morning. According to the Joint Chiefs of Staff, North Korea released filth balloons toward the South around 9:15 a.m. today, and the balloons were moving toward the northern Gyeonggi region.

Until today, the military had been conducting limited relay broadcasts using fixed loudspeakers deployed on the western, central, and eastern frontlines for four consecutive days, but from 1 p.m., it expanded operations to simultaneously and fully activate all loudspeakers in the frontline areas.

Loudspeaker broadcasts toward North Korea are a psychological warfare tool aimed at unsettling North Korean soldiers and civilians. It is known that recent broadcasts include news such as the defection of North Korean diplomats. The military’s policy is to use loudspeaker broadcasts to respond to and deter North Korean provocations.

The Joint Chiefs of Staff stated, "Despite the severe damage caused by heavy rains not only to our people but also to North Korean residents, the North Korean military continues to engage in lowly and petty acts. We sternly warn that the North Korean military’s acts of escalating tensions in frontline areas could result in fatal consequences for them, and all responsibility for the situation lies entirely with the North Korean regime."

They added, "Under the firm ROK-U.S. combined defense posture, our military is closely monitoring North Korean military activities and maintains the capability and readiness to overwhelmingly respond to any provocations."
