Children at disaster sites require special physical and mental protection and care compared to adults. While there have been cases overseas where playgrounds and schools for children were set up at disaster sites, separate facilities or activities such as child-friendly spaces have been rare in Korea.
LG Uplus, as the first domestic company, plans to operate child-friendly spaces at disaster relief sites and carry out customized disaster support activities. They plan to set up air tents near evacuation shelters for disaster victims to run programs for children's education and care.
The relief organization The Promise will be responsible for operating the space, including education, play, and care programs, while the Korea Central Volunteer Center will support manpower and relief supplies through nationwide volunteer organizations. LG Uplus will provide smart pads, heating and cooling devices, and child relief kits to enable the use of the kids-specialized service 'Idulnara'.
The child relief kits consist of coloring books, colored pencils, toys, full-body pillows, and school supplies to help stabilize children's psychological well-being. LG Uplus plans to produce 120 child relief kits through employee volunteer activities within this month.
Lee Cheol-hoon, Head of the Communication Center (Executive Vice President) at LG Uplus, said, "We will operate a friendly and safe space so that children can grow up bravely without being defeated by the wounds of disaster."
