Im Taehee: "University Admissions Must Change for Fundamental Reform of Korean Education"

Im Taehee: "University Admissions Must Change for Fundamental Reform of Korean Education" Lim Tae-hee, Superintendent of Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education, is entering the University Admission Information Fair held on the 19th.

Lim Tae-hee, Superintendent of Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education, emphasized that "the future of Korean education depends on the reform of university admissions."

After touring the site of the '2025 Academic Year Early Admission University Information Fair' held at KINTEX in Goyang on the 19th, Superintendent Lim expressed this view and posted his stance on social media.

Superintendent Lim said, "I heard that some parents lined up from 6 a.m. on the opening day of the fair," adding, "While understanding their earnestness, I have long pondered whether the current situation, where high school education is determined by university admissions, is truly normal."

He continued, "We have been striving to provide education necessary for children to live in the future within the framework of public education, but the continued reliance on private education stems from the fact that the university admissions system has not changed," and added, "As the superintendent responsible for early childhood, elementary, and secondary education, I am committed to resolving this issue for the students who will lead our future."

In particular, he emphasized, "To summarize the conclusion first, the current university admissions must change for Korean education to fundamentally transform and have a future. If we reform the university selection system to strengthen the essence of education and prepare for the future, the innovation in on-site education we are concerned about can be achieved quickly and surely."

Furthermore, he stated, "The Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education will take the lead. If the Gyeonggi education family works together, we can accomplish this," promising, "We will prepare measures through sufficient discussions not only with students, parents, universities, and the government but also with the National Assembly and the private sector."

Meanwhile, the fair was held over two days from the 19th to the 20th, featuring programs such as ▲ university-specific admission counseling ▲ university admission consulting ▲ university student mentor counseling ▲ special lectures on early admission university admission strategies. Over the two days, more than 10,700 visitors, including high school examinees, parents, and school staff, attended the event.
