Distribution of Spare Fuel Tanks, Battery Inspections, and Other Safety Accident Prevention Measures
Buan Maritime Police Station (Chief Seo Young-gyo) announced on the 20th that starting from the 22nd, it will actively carry out administrative measures to prevent water leisure safety accidents and promote marine safety culture in anticipation of the summer fishing peak season.
According to Buan Maritime Police, among 78 leisure equipment accidents in the past three years, 40 cases (51%) were due to poor maintenance, 10 cases (13%) due to careless navigation, and 4 cases (5%) due to inexperienced operation. Last week, there were also three drifting accidents caused by battery discharge and fuel shortage. The maritime police will actively implement accident prevention measures to prevent secondary accidents such as collisions or groundings.
Buan Maritime Police will distribute fuel containers with a 4-panel comic illustrating the importance of carrying reserve fuel to water leisure participants during peak departure times. To prevent drifting accidents caused by battery discharge, they will also check battery levels at major departure points in the jurisdiction.
In addition, they plan to focus all efforts on preventing drifting accidents and spreading safety culture by conducting self-inspection training for outboard motors on water leisure equipment, posting promotional videos and banners, and carrying out public awareness campaigns.
Chief Seo Young-gyo said, "As more people visit the sea ahead of the summer peak season, we will take the lead in preventing leisure equipment accidents to protect the precious lives and property of the public."
