Elected as Next Provincial Party Chairman at the Party Members' Assembly on the 20th
Kim Han-gyu, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea (Jeju-si Eul), was elected as the chairman of the Jeju Provincial Party Committee for a two-year term.
The Democratic Party's Jeju Provincial Committee held its regular party member meeting at Hallasan Gymnasium in Jeju City on the 20th, where the agenda item "Election of the Provincial Party Chairman" was proposed and approved.
Kim, the newly elected chairman who ran unopposed, was chosen with a majority approval of 86.96% in the vote by delegates and party members with voting rights. The vote took place online on the 18th, and the results were announced on the same day. Out of a total electorate of 32,156, 5,510 participated in the vote.
In his acceptance speech, Kim stated, "I hope to establish the foundation for victory in the 2027 presidential election here in Jeju," adding, "To achieve this, I will expand party member participation and strengthen the policy capabilities of the provincial party to gain the trust of the residents."
He also emphasized, "The Jeju Provincial Party will achieve an overwhelming victory in the 2026 local elections to create a bridgehead for regime change."
Kim graduated from Seoul National University with a degree in Political Science and passed the bar exam in 1999. He worked as a lawyer at Kim & Chang and later served as the Democratic Party’s legal spokesperson. He also held the position of political secretary at the Blue House during the Moon Jae-in administration.
Going forward, he plans to begin his activities as provincial party chairman by visiting key institutions such as the provincial government office and the provincial council.
