Parliamentary Experience to Improve Leadership and Debate Skills
The Yeongju City Council in Gyeongbuk (Chairman Kim Byeonggi) recently held the 2024 First Youth Council Classroom at the main assembly hall of the Yeongju City Council.
For the first Yeongju Youth Council Classroom of this year, 24 sixth-grade students from Jungang Elementary School and their supervising teachers participated. The participants experienced programs similar to those of an actual council, helping them understand the roles of local council members and strengthening their leadership and debate skills as democratic citizens.
This Youth Council Classroom included a variety of programs such as an entrance ceremony, a one-day youth council member oath, election of the chairperson, agenda presentations and debates for and against, agenda voting, quiz time, and conversations with council members. The agenda item addressed during the session was an ordinance bill on free bus fare support for students in Yeongju.
Chairman Kim Byeonggi said, "Through the Youth Council Classroom, I hope that our growing youth will have the opportunity to experience the council operation process and engage in conversations with local council members, helping them grow into democratic citizens."
Participants are taking a commemorative photo at the Youth Council Classroom operated by Yeongju City Council.
