Groundbreaking Ceremony for Bubal Hi-Pass IC Connecting Road on Yeongdong Expressway

Expected Traffic Volume Dispersion Effect at Icheon IC

On the 19th, Icheon City in Gyeonggi Province held a groundbreaking ceremony for the 'Bubal Hi-Pass IC Connecting Road' on the Yeongdong Expressway in Daeheung-ri, Daewol-myeon.

This road connects Gajwa-ri in Bubal-eup to Daeheung-ri in Daewol-myeon. With a total project cost of 33.3 billion KRW, the existing 1.3 km two-lane road will be expanded to 5-6 lanes, and an additional 0.5 km will be newly constructed, making the total length 1.8 km.

This road aims to alleviate traffic congestion at the Icheon IC on the Yeongdong Expressway, where traffic volume has surged due to large-scale urban development around SK Hynix. To this end, the city signed an agreement with SK Hynix in April 2022 to build the connecting road and began detailed design work in July of the same year. Following a residents' briefing session last year, construction officially commenced on this day.

The installation of the 'Bubal Hi-Pass IC' in Godam-dong and Daeheung-ri, Daewol-myeon, linked to this project, will be carried out by Korea Expressway Corporation.

Meanwhile, about 200 people attended the groundbreaking ceremony, including National Assembly member Song Seok-jun, Korea Expressway Corporation President Ham Jin-gyu, SK Hynix External Cooperation President Kim Dong-seop, provincial and city council members, and local residents.

Kim Kyung-hee, Mayor of Icheon, expressed expectations that "once the Bubal Hi-Pass IC and connecting road are completed, traffic concentrated at the Icheon IC will be dispersed, relieving congestion, as well as improving accessibility to SK Hynix, thereby strengthening corporate competitiveness and revitalizing the local economy."
