Gwangjin-gu (District Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) is drawing attention with the active activities of the Dong Safety Council, which operates to strengthen the safety management functions centered on the Dong Community Service Center.

The Dong Safety Council operation project is a Ministry of the Interior and Safety public contest project that supports disaster safety management functions at the Dong Community Service Center, the resident contact point, by utilizing local communities familiar with local conditions. It was operated to proactively respond to natural disasters and social disasters and to enable quick response by local residents in the event of a disaster.

The Dong Safety Council patrols and inspects seasonal hazardous areas such as ▲safety inspections of steep slopes during thawing season ▲inspection of drainage channels and rainwater inlets ▲surveillance activities in wildfire-prone areas ▲snow removal work in freezing-prone sections.

Since April, the district has formed Dong Safety Councils in three neighborhoods: Junggok 4-dong, Guui 2-dong, and Gwangjang-dong, with 235 residents participating actively. They are closely monitoring residents' safety through activities such as ▲intensive cleaning of rainwater inlets ▲inspection of road potholes and sidewalk blocks ▲checking the operation of security lights ▲education on flood and typhoon action guidelines and the use of water pumps.

A district official said, “In the second half of the year, steady activities will continue in disaster-prone areas, including snow removal. We plan to promote disaster and safety support projects reflecting the characteristics of each Dong Community Service Center, such as supporting fire extinguishers for fire-vulnerable groups and installing rainwater odor blocking devices.”

Kim Kyung-ho, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, said, “I sincerely thank all the residents who participated in the Dong Safety Council for the safety of the region. There are high expectations for the role of residents familiar with local conditions as safety guardians,” and added, “We will continue to do our best to create a safe and happy urban environment through various projects.”
