Undigested Food Found Above
Sign Points to Overeating Suspected
A famous mukbang streamer in China died during a live broadcast. The cause of death is presumed to be overeating.
According to local media such as China News on the 19th, Chinese mukbang star Pan Xiaoting suddenly died while conducting a live broadcast on the 14th. An autopsy revealed that the stomach was filled with undigested food and the abdomen was severely deformed. The cause of death is presumed to be overeating.
Previously, Pan Xiaoting took on extreme mukbang challenges. Not only did she consume food continuously for more than 10 hours every day, but she also challenged herself to eat over 10kg of food at each meal. Among these were several unusual foods.
There were already abnormal symptoms. Pan Xiaoting had to be hospitalized due to stomach bleeding caused by overeating. However, she resumed broadcasting and binge eating the day after being discharged.
Pan Xiaoting, who previously worked as a waiter, entered the mukbang scene after a friend became a big hit with mukbang videos. Despite worsening health, both her parents and viewers urged her to stop, but she insisted, saying, “Don’t worry. I can handle this much.”
Local media expressed regret, stating, “This young girl held a feast in front of the camera seeking rewards and viewers’ applause, but she never dreamed that this meal would be her last.”
A Mukbang Streamer Also Dies in the Philippines... Moves to Ban Related Content
Recently, a famous mukbang star in the Philippines also died the day after a broadcast. According to Asia One, Dongz Apatan, a popular mukbang YouTuber with 470,000 Facebook followers, posted a mukbang video cooking and eating chicken and rice last month, and died of a heart attack the next day.
In response, Philippine authorities have begun considering banning related content. Philippine Health Secretary Teodoro Herbosa stated, “Mukbang YouTubers are promoting unhealthy behaviors to the Filipino people,” and added, “We must stop making money through something that threatens public health.” The Department of Health plans to push for a ban on mukbang content on websites and social networking service (SNS) platforms if investigations reveal a connection between mukbang and Apatan’s death.
