Prosecution Seeks 5-Year Prison Sentence for Oh Jae-won on Methamphetamine Use Charges

Suspected of Methamphetamine Use 11 Times
Also Charged with Identity Theft and Threats

The prosecution has requested a prison sentence for former professional baseball player and national team member Oh Jae-won (39), who has been charged with drug use.


On the 19th, at the sentencing hearing held at the Seoul Central District Court Criminal Division 28 (Presiding Judge Han Dae-gyun), the prosecution asked the court to sentence Oh to five years in prison and order a fine of 24.74 million won.


Oh was arrested and indicted on charges of using methamphetamine 11 times from November 2022 to November last year, and storing about 0.4g of methamphetamine in a fire hydrant in the hallway of an acquaintance's apartment in April last year.

From January last year to March this year, he is also accused of receiving 2,242 Stilnox tablets (a hypnotic drug containing zolpidem, a psychotropic medicine) from nine acquaintances 89 times, and purchasing 20 Stilnox tablets using an acquaintance's name without authorization.


He is also charged with intimidation, including smashing his phone with a hammer and grabbing the collar of an acquaintance who tried to report his drug use to the police.


Oh admitted to all charges except for the retaliatory assault and intimidation. The sentencing is scheduled for the 26th.
