The YTN branch of the National Union of Mediaworkers filed for a provisional injunction against the appointment of the news director and news headquarters chief without the consent of the members, but it was not accepted.
YTN stated on the 19th, "The YTN branch of the Media Union filed for a 'provisional injunction to suspend the effect of the appointment' against the company, but on the 18th, the 21st Civil Division of the Seoul Western District Court (Chief Presiding Judge Jeon Boseong) dismissed the case." A dismissal is a decision made without examining the merits of the case when the lawsuit requirements are not met.
YTN said, "The court decided that 'the company is not the opposing party to the provisional injunction to suspend the effect of the appointment, and even if the news director whose appointment effect was suspended continues to perform duties, there is no appropriate means to enforce the injunction's effect.'"
Earlier, the YTN branch of the Media Union applied for a provisional injunction in April, stating, "Before appointing the news director and news headquarters chief, the company ignored the collective agreement to ask for the approval or disapproval opinions of the news department members and unilaterally appointed them."
