SK Hynix, Icheon City, and Korea Expressway Corporation Groundbreaking Ceremony on the 19th
"Full Section Opening Within 2 Years... Revolutionary Improvement"
"Alleviating Local Traffic Congestion... Economic Revitalization"
The Bubal Hi-Pass Interchange (IC) in Bubal, Icheon-si, Gyeonggi-do, near the SK Hynix headquarters, is breaking ground. The commuting bus route for about 1,000 SK Hynix employees per day will be shortened by more than 5 km, significantly improving traffic conditions.
On the 19th at 2 PM, officials from SK Hynix, Icheon City, and Korea Expressway Corporation who attended the 'Icheon Bubal Highpass IC Groundbreaking Ceremony' held in Daeheung-ri, Daewol-myeon, Icheon-si, Gyeonggi-do, are taking a commemorative photo. On the 19th, SK Hynix announced that it held the 'Icheon Bubal Hi-Pass IC Groundbreaking Ceremony' in Daheung-ri, Daewol-myeon, Icheon-si, together with Icheon City and Korea Expressway Corporation. About 200 people attended the ceremony, including Kim Kyung-hee, Mayor of Icheon, Ham Jin-gyu, President of Korea Expressway Corporation, Kim Dong-seop, President of SK Hynix, Vice President Shin Sang-gyu, members of Gyeonggi Province and Icheon City councils, and local residents.
An SK Hynix official said, "Based on the company's own feasibility study in 2019, the city signed separate business agreements with Korea Expressway Corporation and our company in 2022, steadily advancing the project. We plan to open the northbound lane toward Seoul by the end of next year first and complete construction by 2026, which will dramatically improve traffic conditions for the city and the company."
The total project cost is 54.4 billion KRW. The city and SK Hynix will share the project expenses. The project is divided into the construction of the Bubal Hi-Pass IC and the connecting road.
The connecting road is a 1.8 km section of the urban planning road linking Gajwa-ri, Bubal-eup, near the SK Hynix headquarters, and Daheung-ri, Daewol-myeon. The city began expansion work on this road on the 7th of last month. In connection with this, Korea Expressway Corporation plans to construct the Bubal Hi-Pass IC in the areas of Godam-dong and Daheung-ri, Daewol-myeon.
The only interchange connecting the SK Hynix headquarters and the Yeongdong Expressway is the Icheon IC. Traffic congestion frequently occurs during peak hours when the traffic demand of local residents and the company overlaps.
With the new Bubal Hi-Pass IC, the commuting bus routes for about 1,000 SK Hynix members per day will be shortened by more than 5 km. Semiconductor-related logistics using the Icheon IC will also be distributed between the two interchanges. A company official said, "We expect that traffic conditions for residents will improve."
Mayor Kim said, "Once the Bubal Hi-Pass IC and connecting roads are completed, traffic congestion in the nearby areas will be alleviated, and accessibility to SK Hynix will improve. We expect this to greatly contribute to strengthening corporate competitiveness and revitalizing the local economy."
President Ham said, "The reduction of logistics costs and the activation of human resource and technology exchanges will lead to the concentration of the semiconductor industry and balanced regional development."
