According to NBC News on the 18th (local time), Costco recently started selling the end-of-the-world meal kit online. The product is priced at $79.99 (about 110,000 KRW) and includes 30 breakfast meals, 80 regular meals, and 40 beverages. The menu is diverse, ranging from teriyaki rice to tomato soup, pasta, macaroni, and apple cinnamon cereal. All the meal kits are dehydrated products that can be eaten by adding water. The product description states, "This is not just for survival but to maintain normalcy, comfort, and joy even during difficult times."
The product became famous after cookbook author Jeffrey Eisner posted about it on social media. He described the end-of-the-world meal kit as "a meal kit prepared for when the apocalypse comes," adding, "When the world collapses, having this meal kit will still make things okay. I want to try tasting it."
However, some have questioned the effectiveness of the meal kit. One netizen pointed out, "If the apocalypse comes, how will you secure drinking water?" Other netizens criticized, saying, "A 25-year shelf life? That's scarier than the end of the world," and "Even if the apocalypse doesn't kill you, the chemical ingredients in the product will."
