A man in his 30s who supplied SIM cards to a voice phishing organization was sentenced to 1 year and 6 months in prison.

The court stated the sentencing reason, saying, "(The defendant's) crime provided means for voice phishing, and the nature of the crime is very serious," and "Despite having a prior conviction and imprisonment for voice phishing crimes, he committed the crime again."

Earlier, in December last year, Kwon received a proposal from a voice phishing organization member he met through an online messenger to supply SIM cards in exchange for a fee. Accordingly, in April, he purchased 74 SIM cards from several daily goods stores around Sokcho, Gangwon-do, and placed them in nearby apartment mailboxes using the so-called 'throwing method.'

It was investigated that the voice phishing gang used the SIM cards provided by Kwon by inserting them into relay devices to alter the caller ID to domestic numbers.
