Incheon City Conducts Survey on Reclusive Hikikomori Aged 19-64... Preparing Support Measures

Incheon City has launched a survey to identify the actual conditions of citizens who are socially isolated or living in seclusion.

The city announced on the 19th that it will conduct a visit and online survey targeting reclusive individuals aged 19 to 64 and their families residing in the area until the end of August.

Through the survey, the city plans to understand the current status of reclusive individuals, the background of their seclusion, daily and residential life, and health conditions. The survey will be conducted in the form of a questionnaire, and online participation is possible via a QR code or an internet link (s.spro.co.kr/s/boc/24/main/). In-depth interviews will also be conducted for those who wish to participate.

Prior to the survey, the city held a briefing session last month for related organizations such as military districts, community social welfare councils, and others to promote the survey and identify subjects.

Incheon City enacted an ordinance last year to support reclusive individuals in growing and returning as healthy members of society. This survey is based on that ordinance, and the results will be used as basic data to establish support policies for reclusive individuals.

Reclusive individuals refer to people who live isolated from the outside world in their homes or limited spaces due to social, economic, or cultural reasons, making normal social activities significantly difficult.

An official from Incheon City stated, "We will strive to help reclusive individuals recover and reintegrate into society through this survey," adding, "We hope for the public’s active interest and participation to establish effective policies for reclusive individuals."
