Daejeon Special Visual Film Festival to Open on September 20... Awards Including Acting Grand Prize Award ceremony of the Daejeon Special Effects Film Festival held last year / Daejeon Information & Culture Industry Promotion Agency

The Daejeon Information & Culture Industry Promotion Agency announced that the 2024 Daejeon Special FX Festival will be held from September 20 to 22 at KAIST and various locations in the original downtown area.

Celebrating its 6th edition this year, the Daejeon Special FX Festival is the only film festival in Korea dedicated to the special effects field. The festival selects outstanding special effects works and honors the artists and actors who contributed to their production.

Since 2012, the city has hosted events such as the Daejeon Drama Festival and the APAN Star Awards to promote the local film and video industry. In line with the policy to foster Daejeon as a hub city for special effects, the Daejeon Visual Art Tech Awards have been held since 2019, and the festival was expanded in 2023 to become the Daejeon Special FX Festival.

At the Daejeon Drama Festival, winners have included Son Hyun-joo, Song Joong-ki, and Kim Nam-joo, while the APAN Star Awards have recognized Song Hye-kyo, Lee Joon-gi, and Lee Bo-young in 2013, and Jo In-sung and Kim Hee-sun in 2014.

This year, at the Daejeon Special FX Festival's "Daejeon Over-The-Top Awards," top stars who have excelled in Korean films and dramas are also expected to be honored.

The Daejeon Over-The-Top Awards will present awards in 14 categories, including Best Actor and Special Effects of the Year. The festival will also feature screenings, GV commentary sessions, video industry experience exhibitions, and seminars.

Lee Eunhak, President of the Daejeon Information & Culture Industry Promotion Agency, stated, "Daejeon is the optimal location for special effects, with the nation's top video infrastructure such as Studio Cube, the technological prowess of Daedeok Innopolis, and outstanding talent from local universities. We will invest 147.6 billion KRW by 2027 to create a convergence special effects content cluster and establish an ecosystem for the special effects industry, so that the Daejeon Special FX Festival can continue to grow in scale."
