Incheon City Council, Public Hearing on Enactment of 'Uhyeon-ui Gil' Revitalization Ordinance

The Construction and Transportation Committee of the Incheon City Council held a session to reexamine the value of 'Uhyeon's Road' on the 80th anniversary of the passing of Go Yu-seop, the first Korean artist and independence activist from Incheon.


On the 18th, the Construction and Transportation Committee held a 'Discussion on the Enactment of Ordinance for the Creation, Management, and Revitalization of Uhyeon's Road' at the City Council, attended by Chairman Kim Dae-jung, Yoo Jung-ho, president of the Incheon Journalists Club, and Park Hee-seon, director of the Pilgrimage Road School.


Uhyeon's Road, created by the Pilgrimage Road School after several explorations, starts from Go Yu-seop's birthplace site in Yongdong Big Well, Jung-gu, and consists of three courses along the old paths of Incheon's original downtown, ending at Neunghodae Park, covering approximately 15 km of walking trail.

At the discussion hosted by the Construction and Transportation Committee of the Incheon City Council and organized by the Incheon Journalists Club and the Pilgrimage Road School, Lee Won-gyu, author of the biography of Go Yu-seop, presented on the theme 'Let us honor Go Yu-seop,' sharing Go Yu-seop's life, achievements, and the value of Uhyeon's Road.


Following this, Jo Yong-ju, a lawyer and representative of the Pilgrimage Road School, explained the necessity of enacting an ordinance regarding the creation, management, and operation of Uhyeon's Road, along with the course details and expected effects.


Yoon Hee-jung, an executive committee member of the Incheon City General Federation, who participated as a discussant, argued, "The creation of Uhyeon's Road requires a strategy that not only reexamines the value of Go Yu-seop but also revitalizes the local economy and connects with the daily lives of residents."


Additionally, Jo Hyuk-shin, editorial director of the Incheon Ilbo, emphasized, "Efforts are needed to establish Uhyeon's Road as the center of the value and identity of modern cultural heritage, and beyond the physical creation of the road, a popularization strategy for Go Yu-seop must accompany it."


Kim Dae-jung, chairman of the Construction and Transportation Committee, stated, "We will strive to ensure that the various opinions discussed at the forum become an opportunity to enact the ordinance and enhance the value of modern cultural heritage within the original downtown area."
