Yangcheon-gu, Seoul (Mayor Lee Gi-jae) announced on the 19th that it will inspect the 43km-long one-way traffic sections within the district and promptly repair 51 locations that require improvement to prevent accidents like the recent wrong-way driving incident at City Hall Station.

Due to the characteristic design of the roads in the Mokdong New Town area as one-way streets, Yangcheon-gu became alert following the wrong-way driving accident and immediately formed an internal inspection team. The team prioritized inspecting the 43km one-way traffic sections within the district, including the Mokdong central axis road, Mok 2-dong, Sinjeong 4-dong, and the side roads of Sinwol 2 and 4-dong.

The inspection identified a total of 51 locations requiring maintenance, including ▲28 damaged or aged safety signs ▲2 safety signs obscured by trees ▲10 faded road markings ▲11 locations needing new safety signs.

The district promptly carried out maintenance on safety signs and road markings, and secured visibility by trimming roadside trees where signs were obscured. For the 11 sections requiring new safety signs, Yangcheon Police Station has been requested to conduct a traffic safety review to strengthen signage and establish safety measures.

Mayor Lee Gi-jae stated, “Since our district has many one-way traffic sections, we will address risk factors through thorough maintenance,” adding, “We will closely monitor to ensure residents do not feel unsafe in their daily lives and create a safer city.”
