On the 17th (local time), BBC reported that Sheikha Mahra bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, a Dubai princess, posted such a message on her Instagram. The princess began the short post with "To my respected husband" and wrote, "I hereby declare our divorce here because you are busy spending time with others."
She then repeated three times, "I divorce you, divorce you, and divorce you," and added, "Take care. Your ex-wife." In Islamic tradition, if a husband says "divorce" to his wife three times, the divorce is considered finalized. It is presumed that Sheikha Mahra borrowed this custom in her writing. However, this practice, which favors the husband, is no longer legally recognized in many Islamic countries.

Currently, all photos of the husband have been deleted from the princess's Instagram account, and photos of the princess have also been removed from the husband's account. It is unusual for Dubai royalty to announce a divorce via SNS, leading some to speculate that the princess's account might have been hacked.
BBC reported, "The princess's husband, Mana bin Mohammed bin Rashid bin Mana Al Maktoum, and her father, Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, have not responded to the divorce declaration." The Dubai government and the UAE embassy in London also did not respond to inquiries regarding the princess's divorce announcement.
Sheikha Mahra is the daughter of Mohammed, the UAE's Vice President and Prime Minister and the ruler of Dubai, and holds a degree in International Relations from a British university. Her husband is known as a prominent businessman. They married in April last year and had their first child just two months ago. Photos of their lavish wedding were shared on SNS, and it was estimated that the wedding cost totaled around 1 trillion won, attracting significant attention.
