Deliberation on 14 Agenda Items, Sharing Key Policies with the Ministry of Education
Meeting with Deputy Prime Minister to Discuss Measures to Strengthen Protection of Educational Activities
Ulsan Metropolitan Office of Education (Superintendent Cheon Changsoo) held the 98th National Council of Provincial and Metropolitan Superintendents General Assembly on the 18th at Hotel Hyundai by Lahan Ulsan in Dong-gu.
This general assembly, hosted by the Ulsan Office of Education, was attended by over 200 participants including Superintendent Cheon Changsoo, 17 provincial and metropolitan superintendents (including deputy superintendents), Ulsan Mayor Kim Du-gyeom, Ulsan Metropolitan Council Chairman Lee Seongryong, and related officials from each region.
At the assembly, the superintendents deliberated on 14 agenda items, including a proposal to amend the Early Childhood Education Act to support counseling and healing for young children in psychological and emotional crisis, and a demand to revise the Act on the Protection of Educational Environment. They called on central government agencies to amend relevant laws and improve systems.
The Ministry of Education provided guidance on requests for cooperation in preparation for the full implementation of the high school credit system and on the integration plan for early childhood education and care. The superintendents then shared educational policies under the theme of "Discussion on Responses Following the Announcement of the Early Childhood Education and Care Integration Plan."
Superintendent Cheon Changsoo stated, "Today's general assembly was a meaningful occasion to further strengthen the foundation for customized public education and future education," and added, "I look forward to moving forward through communication and cooperation with the National Council of Provincial and Metropolitan Superintendents."
Prior to the assembly, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education Lee Jooho and the superintendents held a memorial ceremony and a roundtable discussion on strengthening protection for educational activities at Tani Bay Hotel in Dong-gu, marking the first anniversary of the passing of a Seoi Elementary School teacher.
The participants observed a moment of silence, delivered memorial speeches, watched a tribute video, and shared messages of remembrance for the late Seoi Elementary School teacher. Afterwards, they discussed measures to strengthen protection for educational activities and adopted a joint declaration.
The 99th general assembly will be hosted by the Daegu Office of Education on September 26-27.
