"Resident Safety First"... Dongdaemun-gu Mobilizes Fully for Heavy Rain Preparedness

Dongdaemun-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Lee Pil-hyung) is making every effort to prevent flood damage by conducting site inspections around construction sites and the Jungnangcheon area in preparation for the continuous heavy rains.

On the 17th, when a heavy rain advisory was issued, the district conducted safety inspections at key sites such as construction sites, apartment complexes, and the Jungnangcheon area to prevent flooding damage caused by the heavy rainfall.

They removed fallen leaves from drainage systems near apartment complexes around Jungnangcheon and Jeongneungcheon and restored soil washed out from construction sites due to the heavy rain. Additionally, using on-site and contracted personnel, they removed floating debris from the greenbelt along the Jungnangcheon embankment.

A district official stated, “After site inspections, minor issues are immediately addressed to eliminate risk factors. In preparation for ongoing heavy rains, we will continue to check the safety management status of construction sites and surrounding areas and proceed with restoration work along the Jungnangcheon embankment with safety in mind.”

On the 24th of last month, the district conducted an ‘Extreme Rainfall’ preparedness drill to enhance response capabilities in situations of sudden heavy rain, striving to protect residents from disasters caused by climate change.

Lee Pil-hyung, Mayor of Dongdaemun-gu, said, “The most important thing is the safety of our residents. We ask that people refrain from passing through dangerous areas such as rivers, walking trails, and hillsides. We will remain vigilant until the end of the rainy season and do our best to prevent damage.”
