As the heavy rains during the monsoon season continued for about two weeks, the scale of vehicle flood damage has grown to over 20 billion KRW.

According to the non-life insurance industry on the 18th, from the 6th until 9 a.m. on this day, a total of 2,463 vehicles with flood damage were reported to 12 non-life insurance companies selling auto insurance, with estimated damages amounting to 22.305 billion KRW.

According to the Korea Meteorological Administration, from 3 p.m. on the 17th until 10 a.m. on this day, cumulative rainfall at major locations recorded 365.9 mm in Paju, Gyeonggi, 350.1 mm in Ganghwa, Incheon, 107 mm in Eunpyeong, Seoul, 250.5 mm in Dongsong, Cheorwon, Gangwon, and 177.3 mm at Gwangdeoksan, Hwacheon, Gangwon.

In the central region, very heavy rain of 30 to 60 mm per hour is expected until the afternoon, with some areas forecasted to receive up to 70 mm of rain in one hour.

In response, financial authorities, insurance companies, and the General Insurance Association have been operating an "Emergency Evacuation Alert Service" since this year, which uses auto insurance subscription information to provide evacuation guidance services regardless of the insurer when there is a risk of flooding or secondary accidents on highways.

When an insurance company's patrol car recognizing flood risk or a Korea Expressway Corporation situation room staff confirming secondary accident risks enters the vehicle number into the system, the system directly sends an evacuation guidance message (SMS) to the vehicle owner.
