FocusHNS Expands AI 4-Channel and 8-Channel Black Box Business

Focus HNS is strengthening its market competitiveness with 4-channel and 8-channel black boxes.

Focus H&S announced on the 18th that it will officially launch its artificial intelligence (AI) vehicle monitoring solution business through its 4-channel and 8-channel black box business.

Focus H&S plans to release 4-channel and 8-channel black boxes as B2C products for general vehicles, expanding beyond its existing industrial and corporate use. As controversies over sudden unintended acceleration incidents have increased recently, market demand for the ‘pedal black box,’ which records the brake and accelerator pedals to provide evidence for drivers in sudden acceleration cases, is growing. They are also considering expanding the scope of use by linking with their proprietary AI vehicle monitoring solution ‘Magellan M.’

The 4-channel black box can simultaneously record the front and rear, left and right, interior, and pedal areas. The 8-channel black box records a total of eight directions simultaneously, including front and rear, left and right, interior, pedals, and specific parts. These products allow real-time monitoring and have the advantage of minimizing blind spots.

Focus H&S developed a 4-channel black box for industrial and corporate use in 2018, followed by the completion of an 8-channel black box in 2019. Since 2023, the 4-channel and 8-channel AI black boxes have been installed and operated on domestic large corporations’ commuter buses and special-purpose vehicles.

Sudden unintended acceleration incidents are increasing worldwide. In South Korea, from 2017 to the present, 236 suspected sudden acceleration cases have been reported to the Korea Transportation Safety Authority, and 524 cases to the National Forensic Service. A total of 760 cases have been reported, but few have been officially recognized as sudden acceleration.

Following the accident at Sicheong Station, discussions have intensified, including the proposal of legislation to mandate the installation of pedal black boxes. On the 8th, Lee Heon-seung, a member of the People Power Party, introduced a bill to amend the Automobile Management Act to mandate the installation of automobile pedal black boxes.

A company official explained, "As market demand for pedal black boxes increases, we plan to expand the release of 4-channel and 8-channel black boxes as B2C products for automobiles in the future." He added, "We are accelerating our efforts to pioneer a new market called the Safe Mobility Platform through the recent vehicle monitoring solution ‘Magellan.’ We plan to create synergy by launching 4-channel and 8-channel black boxes equipped with AI functions."
