Gyeonggi-do Faces Flooding 'Water Bomb' with Surge in 119 Calls... "Non-Emergency Calls to 110"

On the 18th, Gyeonggi-do experienced a heavy downpour causing a surge in 119 emergency calls, prompting officials to urge the public to use the rain emergency hotline at 110.

At 12:30 PM that day, Gyeonggi-do sent a safety alert message stating, "Due to the overwhelming number of 119 emergency calls caused by the heavy rain, please use the rain emergency hotline at 110."

Previously, following the Sewol ferry disaster, the government consolidated the numerous emergency numbers, which had reached 21 in 2016, into three main numbers. Crime reports are handled by 112, disaster reports by 119, and rain emergency reports or civil complaints and consultation calls by 110.
