"Helping Heal the Mind"... Yongsan-gu Provides Professional Psychological Counseling Services

Yongsan-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Park Hee-young) is launching a professional psychological counseling service called the "National Mind Investment Support Project" for residents who need psychological counseling due to emotional difficulties such as depression and anxiety.

Applications are accepted at the resident registration neighborhood community centers, and those wishing to receive counseling should bring the required documents and visit the relevant neighborhood community center. Eligible applicants include ▲those recognized as needing psychological counseling by psychological counseling centers operated by national and public institutions such as mental health welfare centers, university counseling centers, and youth counseling welfare centers ▲those recognized as needing psychological counseling due to depression or anxiety by psychiatric medical institutions ▲those who score 10 or higher, indicating moderate or higher depression, on the national mental health screening (PHQ-9) ▲and youth preparing for independence and extended protection children.

However, those who require psychiatric treatment primarily due to drug or alcohol addiction, severe mental illness, or who are receiving services such as child and adolescent psychological support services or youth mental health support projects are excluded.

If selected as a beneficiary, individuals can receive psychological counseling services once a week for a total of 8 sessions within 120 days. Counseling can be conducted face-to-face one-on-one at service providers registered with public health centers nationwide, regardless of the individual's residential address.

The service fee per session is 80,000 KRW for Type 1 and 70,000 KRW for Type 2. The service types are distinguished based on the qualifications of the service providers. Beneficiaries pay a co-payment ranging from 0 to 30% of the fee depending on their median income level.

District Mayor Park Hee-young stated, "Through this project, we will take care of the mental health of our residents and strive to promote mental well-being," emphasizing, "To prevent depression, it is most important to receive treatment at the early symptoms stage before the condition worsens."
