Iyangsu: "I've never seen such a Kookhim party convention... Why are experienced people acting like this?"

"Won Hee-ryong Overreacts, Han Dong-hoon Clashes Case by Case"

As the People Power Party's leadership election unfolds into a series of expos?s, Lee Yang-su, a member of the People Power Party, expressed concerns about the aftermath of the election, calling it a "sight I've never seen before."

On the 18th, Lee appeared on SBS Radio's 'Kim Tae-hyun's Political Show' and said, "Except for candidate Han Dong-hoon, the other candidates have many players and experience, so it's somewhat difficult for me to analyze why the leadership election is being conducted in this manner."

He added, "I'm not taking sides with any candidate, but it seems that candidate Won Hee-ryong is overdoing it to overcome his low approval ratings," and "Won has started directly attacking Han to create a one-on-one race."

He continued, "Candidate Han Dong-hoon should just say, 'This is due to my own shortcomings' and move on, but the fights seem to be intensifying as he clashes with Won on each issue," pointing out that "this is not a desirable situation."

Regarding the so-called 'Kim Ok-gyun Project' circulating recently in political circles?which suggests that even if candidate Han becomes party leader, the pro-Yoon (pro-Yoon Seok-yeol) faction will find faults in Han to end his leadership quickly?Lee said, "That's impossible," adding, "Once someone becomes party leader, they already control the party's real power. We operate under a single leadership system where the party leader decides everything."

In response to the host's question about whether former People Power Party leader Lee Jun-seok was ousted, he said, "That was early in the administration, and the people trying to oust him were powerful," adding, "Now it's the midterm, so they don't have that power anymore." Previously, Lee Jun-seok, a member of the Reform New Party, effectively lost his party leadership position in 2022 while serving as the People Power Party leader due to a suspension of party membership over allegations related to instructing the destruction of evidence in a sexual bribery case.

Meanwhile, the poll results cited by Lee were conducted by NewSis, commissioned to the polling specialist agency Ace Research, using an automated response system (ARS) with 100% virtual phone numbers provided by three major telecom companies from the 14th to 15th. The suitability ratings for the People Power Party leader were: Han Dong-hoon 43.9%, Won Hee-ryong 11.3%, Na Kyung-won 10.7%, and Yoon Sang-hyun 8.9%. The response rate was 1.4%, with a margin of error of ±3.1 percentage points at a 95% confidence level. For more details, please refer to the Central Election Poll Deliberation Commission website.
