Responsible for supplying primary system core equipment including reactors
Secondary system main equipment such as steam turbines handled by Czech subsidiary
Team Korea has been selected as the preferred negotiation partner for two new nuclear reactors in the Czech Republic, valued at 24 trillion won. If the contract is finalized next year, Doosan Enerbility, a domestic nuclear power company, will be responsible for supplying key equipment. Doosan Enerbility will supply primary system core main equipment such as reactors and steam generators, while Doosan Skoda Power, Doosan Enerbility’s Czech subsidiary, will supply secondary system core main equipment such as steam turbines.
Unlike France, Doosan Enerbility is reported to have strongly emphasized its commitment to supporting the Czech energy industry. According to the company on the 18th, Doosan Enerbility has agreed to provide Doosan Skoda Power with its carbon-free power generation technologies, including hydrogen and gas turbines, on the premise of winning the Czech nuclear power project. The decision to support the Czech Republic in emerging as a European carbon-free power generation outpost was a significant factor.

Doosan Group Chairman Park Jung-won personally visited the Czech Republic and hosted an event to support the nuclear power contract, boosting the bid effort. At the event held in May, which invited 300 people including Czech government officials and local finance and nuclear power industry figures, he said, "Doosan has maintained close cooperation with the Czech government and companies in the energy and machinery industries for a long time," adding, "We will spare no investment and support to grow together."
Doosan Enerbility is a ‘leading nuclear power company’ equipped with an integrated production system from nuclear power plant equipment materials to final product manufacturing, as well as large-scale nuclear power plant material technology and self-supply capabilities. For over 40 years, it has manufactured core nuclear power equipment such as reactors, steam generators, turbines, and generators, as well as nuclear fuel handling equipment, nuclear fuel transport containers, and reactor system auxiliary devices. Doosan Enerbility has produced 34 large reactors and 124 steam generators.
Doosan Enerbility also supplied key equipment during the export of the Barakah nuclear power plant in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), valued at $40 billion (approximately 47 trillion won), in December 2009. Chairman Park stated, "Based on the successful supply of main equipment to the UAE Barakah nuclear power plant, our first export, we will do our best to support overseas nuclear power orders, challenging again after 15 years."
To strengthen manufacturing technology competitiveness in nuclear power, the company also directly manages on-site technicians from partner companies. This is based on the belief that "the world’s best nuclear power starts at the fingertips of on-site technicians." Doosan Enerbility’s top technical experts transfer accumulated experience to partner company technicians. Customized technical support is also provided, including partner company quality consulting and education on quality failure cases.

Doosan Enerbility has been steadily carrying out overseas nuclear power-related projects. These include ▲nuclear power feeder pipes for the Cernavoda nuclear power plant in Romania in May this year ▲the $13 billion (approximately 16 trillion won) second-phase construction project of the El Dabaa nuclear power plant in Egypt in 2022 ▲instrumentation and control equipment for units 3 and 4 of the Xudabao nuclear power plant and units 7 and 8 of the Tianwan nuclear power plant in China in 2021 ▲feeder pipes for four pressurized heavy water reactors (China’s Jinan Phase 3 units 1 and 2, Canada’s Point Lepreau, and Bruce unit 6).
Doosan Enerbility also secured orders for reactor modules, the core main equipment of next-generation small modular reactors (SMRs). The reactor modules made by Doosan Enerbility will be installed in six 77 MW SMRs from U.S.-based NuScale Power, which will be used in Romania’s first SMR power plant. SMRs are considered game changers in the nuclear power industry due to their lower construction costs and reduced risks compared to large nuclear power plants. Additionally, Doosan Enerbility is expected to be selected as a supplier of reactors and other equipment for NuScale Power’s $37 billion (approximately 50 trillion won) SMR construction project. The supply scale from Doosan Enerbility is expected to exceed 2 trillion won.
An industry insider said, "Expectations for a K-Nuclear Renaissance are growing," adding, "The ripple effects will likely reach partner companies within 2 to 3 years at the earliest." The Czech Republic aims to finalize the contract with the final operator next year following the selection of the preferred negotiation partner today, with construction starting in 2029 and completion targeted for 2036. The Czech government first confirmed the construction plan for two Dukovany reactors (units 5 and 6) and selected Korea as the preferred negotiation partner. It is also reported that the Czech government has offered an option to grant Korea the right of first negotiation if it decides to build two additional reactors (units 3 and 4) in the Temelin area in the future.
A Doosan Enerbility official said, "We expect the scale of main equipment manufacturing costs and construction costs to be specified during the consultation process between the Czech client and KHNP until the final contract in March next year," adding, "We will do our best to ensure the Czech nuclear power final contract proceeds smoothly."
