The city of Busan will hold the opening ceremony for 'Arte Museum Busan' at 2 p.m. on the 18th, and the museum will officially open to the public starting on the 19th.
The opening ceremony will take place at 'Arte Museum Busan' in Yeongdo-gu, with around 120 attendees including Mayor Park Hyungjun, Lee Seongho, CEO of d'strict Korea, Ryu Jehak, CEO of PIAC, Kim Kijae, Mayor of Yeongdo-gu, district council members, and other officials.
The event will proceed in the following order: welcoming remarks, congratulatory speeches, opening performance, ribbon cutting, and exhibition viewing.
The city and d'strict Korea signed a business agreement in June 2022 to establish 'Arte Museum Busan,' a permanent immersive media art exhibition hall.
As a result of defining the division of roles and establishing a collaborative foundation between the two organizations, the world's largest 'Arte Museum Busan' was created in Yeongdo-gu.
Through the business agreement, the museum was built with 20 billion KRW of pure private capital, supported by regulatory reforms and administrative assistance.
Boasting a scale of 1,700 pyeong, the world's largest 'Arte Museum Busan' is an immersive media art exhibition hall presented by the world-class digital design company 'd'strict,' known for works such as 'Waterfall-NYC' and 'Wale#2' at Times Square in New York, and 'WAVE' at COEX.
'Arte Museum Busan' features 19 works under the theme of 'Circle,' inspired by Busan, 16 of which are new creations. By composing diverse exhibition spaces that combine digital technology and art in an original and immersive way, it is expected to establish itself as a global cultural tourism content, attracting over a million domestic and international tourists to Busan annually.
'Arte Museum,' which has attracted a total of 7 million visitors worldwide, first opened in Jeju in September 2020, followed by Yeosu in August 2021, and Gangneung in December 2021. More recently, with full-scale overseas expansion, it opened in Hong Kong in October 2022, Chengdu, China in April last year, Las Vegas, USA in November last year, and Dubai in February this year. 'Arte Museum Busan' is the eighth location to open.
Mayor Park Hyungjun stated, "For Busan to become a 'global hub tourism city,' it is important to elevate cultural tourism content to a global level, which in turn enhances the value of Busan's city brand. We will continue to work hard so that citizens and domestic and international tourists visiting Busan can enjoy a variety of new cultural tourism content." He added, "The location of 'Arte Museum Busan' is in an old coastal industrial area of Yeongdo-gu, surrounded by many port facilities and factories, and has limited access to public transportation. Therefore, in cooperation with Busan Port Authority, we have arranged for the Busan International Cruise Terminal parking lot to be used as a temporary parking area, and we will continue to focus on improving the surrounding transportation system."
Since the launch of the 8th popularly elected administration, the city has been continuously promoting projects to build an international tourism city brand utilizing global intellectual property (IP), such as hosting Cirque du Soleil Busan, advancing the Baby Shark Hometown Busan project, and publishing the Michelin Guide Busan.
