Dongdaemun-gu Attaches 'Building Energy Usage Rating Labels' on Public Buildings

Energy Usage Ratings and Energy Consumption per Unit Area Displayed at 22 Public Buildings
Expansion to Private Buildings Planned, Greenhouse Gas Reduction Targets for All Buildings in Dongdaemun-gu

Dongdaemun-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Lee Pil-hyung) announced on the 18th that it will attach 'Building Energy Usage Rating Charts' to 22 public buildings with a total floor area of 1,000㎡ or more to manage greenhouse gas emissions from public buildings.

On the 15th, Seoul City unveiled the 'Public Building Energy Usage Rating' as a pilot project of the 'Climate Accompaniment Building Project' to reduce greenhouse gases in the building sector. Buildings with lower energy usage compared to others of the same purpose and similar size receive a higher rating (A), while those with higher energy usage receive a lower rating (E).

This energy survey was conducted based on the previous year's energy usage, including electricity, city gas, and district heating. Among the 22 public buildings in Dongdaemun-gu, 3 were rated A, 12 rated B, 6 rated C, and 1 rated D. Among them, the Dongdaemun-gu Office building received a B rating, placing it among the top energy ratings among the 25 district offices in Seoul.

The district distributed and attached rating charts displaying basic building information, energy usage ratings, and energy usage per unit area at the main entrances of the 22 buildings subject to rating reporting.

Dongdaemun-gu plans to investigate and manage the energy usage status of public buildings and will expand the target to private buildings in the future to collect basic information for reducing greenhouse gases from buildings throughout Dongdaemun-gu.

Additionally, the district will operate a 'Visiting Building Greenhouse Gas Management and Evaluation Education and Promotion Team' to provide education and promotion on greenhouse gas reduction for 100 buildings over 3,000㎡ in total floor area and over 20 years old, encouraging participation from the private sector.

Lee Pil-hyung, Mayor of Dongdaemun-gu, stated, “Dongdaemun-gu is making great efforts to realize carbon neutrality in the building sector, including establishing the nation’s first zero-energy specialized zone through public-private cooperation. We will actively cooperate with Seoul City's policies related to building greenhouse gases and firmly establish a Dongdaemun-gu-type building carbon neutrality realization model.”
